Changes in fishing arrangements at The Nykälä Rapids!The
focus of fishing is from now on in fly-fishing.
The season starts in
snowfly-time 17 April and goes on without any closed season in trout
fishing until 15 November.
The snowfly-time is lasting long, until the
beginning of May when huge shoals of bleak appear in the rapids, being the
main food for trout at the time.
Fly-fishing area consists of the area
including the rapids Mieskoski, Naiskoski, Leppäkoski, Myllykoski, the
areas between them and the area from Myllykoski downwards to the end of the
whole fishing area. The length of the fly-fishing area is about 2 km and
the main catch is brown trout (Salmo trutta). On this area only fly-fishing
with fly-fishing equipment is allowed (Quota set at 6 fly-fishermen with individual licences at the
same time). The groups who have reserved the whole fishing area are allowed
to spin-fish also on the fly-fishing area. (No quota set at the size of the
group).
Spin-fishing with single licenses is allowed on the upper part of
the river on the 2 km area from Mieskoski upwards and on the 6 ha lake
Pikku-Poikimo. Fishing on these areas is practised mainly from boats. The
main catch on spin-fishing areas is pike (Esox lucius).(Record 15.3 kg). Free use of
Koskentila´s boats, floating tubes, lean-to-shelter, campfire sites, smoke
oven with firewood and equipment and the use of the kitchen is included in
the price of the fishing licenses.
A large fully equipped kitchen was
completed during the last season in one of the outbuildings of The
Koskentila Estate. It is also a good room for changing clothes, open and
prepare, freeze or keep cool fish, if not cooked instantly. New showers and toilets are also in this building.
The winter-warm capacity in accommodation is altogether 38 beds in
seven separate rooms in the log outbuildings of The Koskentila Estate. The
rooms have only modest facilities including fridge and drying cupboard for
wet clothes. Showers and the sauna for private use and toilets are in separate buildings. In
the officeroom of the main building you can purchase the licenses, buy or
rent fishing equipment, read fishing magazines, books and the catch diary
(the updated catch diary is also available on this web-site).
CRITICISM- An amazingly idyllic and fine place. A divine amount of fish in the river, also plenty of bright runners. This is a place to be revisited. What comes to the facilities, service and atmosphere, this is one of the finest brown trout rivers in Finland. -
